She follows me to the condo I live in. I don’t have a penthouse. I have plenty as is, but it’s always felt a little too big for me. Maybe because it’s just me who lives there. I do have a small staff—Mrs. Kroenig, my housekeeper, comes several days a week to tidy things up and cook for me, because even though I can cook, I usually don’t have the time, or I’m just too tired. She makes sure I eat a healthy diet, but she also always sneaks in some treats, too. My parents live across the country, so Mrs. K is sort of like my second mom.

There’s also my personal assistant Chad, who lives in the building in order for him to stay close by. I try to keep my asks as minimal as possible. But he’s always available, day or night, if I need anything, so I’ll be able to rely on him to make sure Lyric gets whatever she needs.

I take her hand as we ride the elevator up to my floor. Her eyes have been huge since the second we walked in.

“This is quite the palace,” she says lightly.

I shrug. “Sometimes it feels too palatial. My agent recommended it, but I’ve always wanted a nice little house in the ’burbs.”

“White picket fence?” she teases.

I grin, twining my fingers with hers. “All the bells and whistles. Couple dogs. An asshole cat to lord it over them.” My gaze drifts up from our fingers to her beautiful face. “A lovely wife to share it all with. Maybe some kids.”

Her throat works and she looks away. “Maybe you’ll get all of that one day.”

I lift her fingers to my lips, not wanting to scare her off. “If I find the right one, and she loves me like I love her.”

We walk inside my place, and I give her the tour. It’s a spacious two-bedroom condo with huge, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a view of downtown LA. At night, all those glittering lights are a sight to see. Sometimes when I stand here alone and look out at it, it reminds me of just how small I am.

“Wow,” Lyric breathes, hurrying to the window.

“We can go outside. There’s a balcony.” I open a sliding glass door and we step out onto the wraparound balcony. There’s a fire pit, several comfortable outdoor sofas, a bar.

Lyric walks to the railing as the wind whips her long black hair away from her face. I step behind her and wrap my arms around her.

“It’s cold,” I murmur into her ear.

She smiles, leaning back into me, and the gesture goes straight to my heart. I want her to feel safe in my arms. Safe with me.

“Some view,” she murmurs. “I’d be out here every night.”

You can be, I want to tell her. This can be your view every single night.

“It’s definitely much better sharing it with someone,” I reply. “Sharing it with you.”

“I bet you say that to all the girls.” She casts me a sly look.
